Will it be cake or death?
Okay, assuming cake, which do you value more: Your life or your money? That’s a classic. How about money or job? Too close to one another to choose? Okay, how about this one:
Your mobile device or your salary?
Guess which over 1/3 of Gen-Y chose.
Yep, they chose their mobile. Specifically, over 1/3 of Gen-Y respondents to a Cisco survey chose social media access over a higher salary.
Now those are priorities that we here at TK Carsites social media marketing can get behind.
The through-line of the survey results was that Gen-Y wants…well, what they want. They expect a more relaxed work environment with greater personal entitlement. Not exactly a shocking result from a generation that’s staying home with their folks more than any generation in a century.
Other enlightening results include:
- 64 percent of college students would ask about social media usage policies during job interviews, and one in four said it was a key factor.
- 41 percent of young professionals said their employers marketed a flexible device and social media policy to recruit and attract them.
- 56 percent of college students said that if they encountered a company that banned access to social media, they would decline the job offer or join and find a way to get around it anyway.
- 29 percent of college students believe it’s their right to be able to work remotely on a flexible schedule.
